This page explains how the Heron Island Residents Association website uses cookies. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal information more generally.
A cookie is a small text file that a website can store on your device to make something work or to remember a setting. This site uses only strictly necessary cookies — the kind needed to make a feature function. We do not use any cookies for analytics, advertising, tracking, or social media. Because we use only strictly necessary cookies, no cookie-consent banner is required.
The cookies we use
| Cookie | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| hira_member | Set only if you sign in to the members area. It keeps you signed in and contains your email address with a security signature. It cannot be read by scripts (it is “HttpOnly”). | Up to 30 days, or until you log out. |
| WordPress administration cookies (e.g. wordpress_logged_in, wordpress_sec, wp-settings) | Set only for committee members who log in to manage the website, to keep them signed in to the admin area. Ordinary visitors and members never receive these. | From the end of the session up to about two weeks. |
If you simply browse the site or read the public pages without signing in, no cookies are set at all.
What we don’t use
We do not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, advertising cookies, social-media tracking pixels, or any other tool that profiles or tracks visitors. Our website host keeps standard server logs (which may include IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting, but these are not cookies and are not used for analytics — see our Privacy Policy for more.
Managing cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and set most browsers to refuse them. Please note that if you block the hira_member cookie, the members area will not be able to keep you signed in. Guidance for common browsers is available at aboutcookies.org.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page if the cookies we use change. Any updates will be posted here with a revised date below.
